EXTERIOR DOOR HEAD CONSIDERATIONS

Doors can be a major source of thermal breaks. Care must be taken to ensure that the Lintel and Door Frame have proper Thermal Breaks.

Lintel - Masonry
  • Lintels can be a major source of Thermal Breaks
  • Provide Thru-Wall Flashing and install Weeps at 16" or 24" O.C.

Masonry Coursing
  • If using Masonry, the Rough Opening should be at Masonry Coursing, which is at 8" intervals.
  • Masonry Door Frame typically have a 4" head, as opposed to the normal 2" head
