In order to obtain accurate Building Square Footage it is important to the actual building from site and finish elements that contain square footage information - items such as
If extensive site, furnishings and finishes will be modeled, create separate models and link them to the architectural model. If the modeling is not extensive, keep them on separate worksets
Access the Worksets Dialogue Box at the bottom of the Revit screen:

- Context buildings
- Model elements needed for scheduling (such as Doors or Windows to be scheduled as "Not Used")
- Grass and/or paved areas created as a floor
- Carpeted areas created as a floor.
If extensive site, furnishings and finishes will be modeled, create separate models and link them to the architectural model. If the modeling is not extensive, keep them on separate worksets
Access the Worksets Dialogue Box at the bottom of the Revit screen:

When using Worksets, it is important to make sure that you are placing items on the correct Workset. Set the current workset by selecting from the drop-down at the bottom of the Revit screen:
